Wellworth going the extra mile to create a friendly and approachable Corporate Branding and to install superb quality Promotional Signage for Wellworths
To a media fanfare from national press, radio and TV, Dorchester’s Woolworths store became Wellworths in less than three weeks, with the assistance of corporate branding and promotional signage specialists Hierographics Ltd.

Former Woolworths store manager Claire Robertson, reopening the store as her own business Wellworths, captured the imagination of the UK’s media. Amidst all the gloom of downturn and recession, the store’s rebirth as an independent enterprise was a rare good news item.
National newspapers and TV first highlighted the story in mid February, when Claire and her financial backers were already focused on a launch date in March – but at that point there was no corporate branding, promotional signage or point of sale material for Wellworths. Claire needed some ideas fast, and didn’t have a great deal of time for discussion.
She had three weeks in which to re-invent what at the time was an empty, sad-looking store. The media attention was worth a fortune in publicity terms, but it meant that she found herself spending large amounts of her time on interviews – not just for local and regional media but national newspapers, TV and radio, plus a TV crew from CBS News in the USA and one or two from Europe for good measure.
Hierographics' John Roberts said: “Obviously Claire was up against it for time. She needed to establish the corporate branding and then get the promotional signage in place for the opening of Wellworths, which was only three weeks away. At that point there was no logo, no corporate branding of any kind. We were starting from scratch.”
Three of Hierographics' designers at Wareham then produced their own creative proposals based on the name 'Wellworths' and presented back to Claire within 3 days. The choice was made without hesitation and the race against time was then on to create the corporate branding for Wellworths and provide all the finished artwork, graphics and promotional signage that are now on display in the Dorchester store.
Said Amanda Neil - graphic designer, “We often have requirements for urgent graphics, usually though from existing clients who are aware of our work ethic where we pull out all the stops to meet impossible deadlines. In this case, Wellworths proved a unique challenge, providing a corporate branding the client liked and the finished promotional signage throughout the store in good time for the opening. We are very pleased with the result.”
Handling the PR effort for Claire and Wellworths was David Murdock of Deep South Media. He said: “The media interest was huge, and the timescale was really short. In that situation you need people who can come in and get the right job done without any fuss.”
Earlier in the year Hierographics had worked with David on Deep South’s three-month awareness campaign for Business Link. Hierographics produced the visual elements (press ads, billboards and bus back panels) for the campaign, which was designed to highlight the importance of Business Link’s advice service to firms during the current recession.
Hierographics, with a staff of 10, is a multi-disciplinary design agency dealing with design, print, corporate branding, website design, SEO, photography ,exhibition graphics and promotional signage. The Wellworths project chimed with Hierographics’ enthusiasm for looking at the positive. Said John: “Good news may seem to be in short supply at the moment, but like all other businesses in this part of the world, we’re anxious to be working together as much as possible to get out of this recession. The good news stories are there, and we love playing our part in making the most of them.”
