I'm David Lock, cartoonist, humorous illustrator and writer. A lively line, a ready wit and friendly cartoon characters are my stock in trade. Clients use my ideas and style to catch the eye and add some fun.

 
 
 
 

About me
Much of my work has been for children’s books, mostly for educational publishers and specifically in ELT (English Language Teaching), where cartoon characters help to put across teaching points in an entertaining way.

I've illustrated and written cartoon strips for adults as well as children and in 2006 I was shortlisted in Saga Magazine’s Writing for Children competition. Current work includes cartoon illustrations for “The Selfish Pig’s Guide to Caring” (Poperro Press) which has recently been aquired by Time-Warner.

What I offer
Until now, I've worked for mainstream and Educational Publishers, and for a number of large Design Studios, but the purpose of this website is to reach YOU, whether you're a small studio, a harrassed Advertising Executive or an author in search of an illustrator, or someone who needs a one-off greetings card.

How I work
I'll work to a brief, to a script or supply my own ideas if you're not sure what you want.

Usually I supply roughs first, by post, fax or email and the final job as flat artwork.

I'm happy to work in line only, if you want to do the colouring and manipulation in-house - a useful service for studios who can't justify employing a full-time cartoonist.

Prices
Typically, a small line illustration is £45-£60. A greetings card £100. An A4, full colour artwork £200-£400, depending on the time spent on it.
