Setting up an email account in Outlook 2003

Setting up a new email account in Outlook 2003 is a straightforward process, aided by the built-in email account wizard. You will need either your hosting instructions email (if you are setting up an account to collect the default catch-all mailbox), or the mailbox name and password if you you are setting up an account to collect from a mailbox you have just set up in your siteadmin panel.

Starting the wizard

To start the new email account wizard, go to the Tools menu, and select E-mail Accounts from the drop-down list. If this option is not available immediately, then you should see an arrow at the bottom of the drop-down list - click this to show all the available options.

When the wizard starts, choose the Add a new email account option, then click Next.

On the next screen, you select the type of mail access for our servers. Select POP3 from the available options, then click on Next.

Entering the account settings

The next screen is where you enter all the settings relevant to the mailbox you are setting up.

User Information

  • Your Name: This is the name that people see when they receive an email from you
  • E-mail Address: The email address on any emails you send out. This is where the mail will be sent to when people reply to your mail
Server Information
  • Incoming Mail Server (POP3): This is pop3. followed by your domain name
    eg: pop3.mydomainname.com
  • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): This is supplied by your ISP (the company you use to connect to the internet). If you are unsure of what this actually is, then you need to contact your ISP and ask them.
Logon Information
  • Username: The mailbox name from your siteadmin panel. All mailboxes start with your domain name.
  • Password: The password for the mailbox you are setting up

Once all this information has been entered, you should click on Next. Do not use the Test Account Settings feature, as this is not guaranteed to work correctly.

You have now successfully created your email account in Outlook 2003. Click the Finish button to exit the wizard and return to the main screen.
